Online Services

The Library of the Hamburg Institute for Social Research is a member of the Digitale Bibliothek (DigiBib; Digital Library), a cooperation of 200 German libraries. Participating libraries offer access to their holdings and databases and together provide further web resources.

The Digitale Bibliothek (DigiBib) offers a wide variety of information sources and services within a single interface.

After logging in on the DigiBib site, users are directed to the meta-search and can choose between simple and advanced search modes.

Library catalogs and literature data bases from all over the world (local and international catalogs, data bases for specific subject areas and for academic articles) and full text sources can be searched individually or in parallel searches.

From the DigiBib interface, users can access a collection of Web Links and Databases that includes online and CD-ROM data resources (for example encyclopedia, subject-specific data bases), full-text sources, and other valuable and freely accessible websites and reflects the fields of research currently represented at the Institute.

Note that licensed databases can only be used on-site in our Library.

The Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB, Electronic Periodical Library) is also integrated into the DigiBib portal. Nearly all periodicals that are currently available free of charge on the Internet can be searched and accessed via the EZB.

Another feature of the DigiBib interface is online access to non-German journals to which the Library currently subscribes. Users can view these periodicals by using the Swetswise button. This service is accessible via the Institute’s IP address only; external users can view these subscription journals from computer workstations in the Library.
