E-Books
The e-books purchased by the HIS library can be used with the database Ebook Central. In addition to the parmanently purchased e-books, the Social Sciences collection is currently also licensed, so that 45,000 e-books can be used in full text.
The abstracts and the tables of contents of the entire range of 990,000 e-books can be searched freely. In addition, a short access of 5 minutes is available.
Using the Library
With a password supplied by the library, users have access to the full text of all books for five minutes each. Users can also suggest which e-books they would like to have made available in the library (via purchase or loan schemes). All functions of e-books which the library has purchased can be used (printing, downloading, loaning, and so forth).
Users: E-books are available exclusively to staff members at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HIS), guests of HIS, and the staff of other institutes that cooperate with HIS.
If you belong to one of these user groups, you are welcome to set up your own account within the premises of the HIS library.
Please click on Create new account / Login and fill out the online form, or ask a member of the library staff to help you set up an account.
Once you are registered, you will be able to use all functions of the Ebook Central, both within and outside the Hamburg Institute for Social Research.
