Prof. Dr. Bernd Greiner

Biography

Historian, political scientist, and americanist

Member of the research staff at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research from 1989 till January 2018.

Bernd Greiner studied history, political science, and American studies at Philipps University Marburg and Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and Millersville University, Pennsylvania. He was awarded a doctorate in political science by the University of Marburg in 1984 with a thesis on the National Security Council under Truman and Eisen-hower and completed his Habilitation at the University of Hamburg’s Department of History in 1997 with a study on the “Morgenthau legend”.

From 1984 to 1989, Bernd Greiner lectured at the Universities of Münster and Oldenburg and was on the editorial staff of the academic journal Englisch-Amerikanische Studien. He teaches history at the University of Hamburg and was appointed an adjunct professor there in 2004.
